The I & M Canal in Utica
(Burgoo Festival)
Sunday, October 12th

10:30 AM MEET, 11 AM RIDE!

We will meet at canal Lock #14 parking lot, in LaSalle, and ride east to Utica and beyond - possibly to Buffalo State Park. This parking lot is only 5 miles west of Utica and the Burgoo Festival. Thousands are drawn to this festival, named for the hundreds of gallons of hearty stew the locals prepare for the big day. In addition, there will be food stands, crafts, and a festive atmosphere. Our group can decide on the amount of riding, as the map shows the trail continues east to Ottawa and beyond - click here for a I&M Canal trail map.

Directions from Chicago:

  • Go south on I-55 and exit #250B west on I-80,
  • Go 51 miles to LaSalle (IL 351) and exit (#77) south,
  • Take 351 south (which is St Vincent Ave and it turns into Joliet St) through the downtown area of LaSalle,
  • Cross the high bridge over the canal click here for a map,
  • Go one block turn right in to Lock #14 access area.

Here are some things that you might want to bring on the ride:

BICYCLE LOCK • WATER BOTTLE • MONEY • SPARE INNER TUBE • 2-WAY RADIO

HELMET & SEAT BAG or RACK (FOR CARRYING THE ABOVE)

For the Talkabout 2-way radio fans, we will be jabbering on channel 7 / band 7.

Just show up, meet the group, and ride (SHOW AND GO).
