Lake Tahoe Trip Report

Although the group was small (23 members), the fun was big in Lake Tahoe. We arrived on time and started our adventure. Skiing at Heavenly for the first couple of days was great. Blue skies and good snow….but wait, talk of a storm brewing! Tuesday we had a bus that took us to Northstar. On the way up it started to snow. The first half of the day was smooth groomed runs. Depending on the level of skier, the second half was either tough or great. I’m talking snow, snow, snow. By the time we made it back to the bus the driver had chained up and said the ride back would be challenging. We were delayed by a few accidents on the road but made it back without incident.
It continued to snow, and continued to snow, and continued to snow. Our advanced skiers were having a ball. Those not used to so much powder took refuge at the casinos (some of us actually won!). The wind caused the resort to shut down the gondola but access was possible by chairlift. We had a small group trying to get to Kirkwood but they were unable to because the weather had shut down the pass for two days. Oh well, next trip .
The trip home was looooong. The bus picked us up two hours early because of the weather but it actually only took us ½ hour longer so we were at the airport 3 ½ hours early. Thank God Jorn taught us all some card games to help us pass the time. As if being early wasn’t bad enough, our flight got pushed back 5 hours! Our trip home on a direct flight took us from 7:00 am to 2:00 am. I don’t know about you but that’s a lot of card playing. The group took all the drama in stride, still on a high from the successful Sanctuary Trip!
