Steamboat December 2020 Recap

With Covid-19 red level in place Sanctuary successfully ran an early season trip to Steamboat.  Though we couldn’t hold group gatherings and our only group party was on the bus ride to Steamboat, everyone was happy to be able to travel and hit the slopes again.

Sanctuary’s December’s trip to Steamboat highlights

Steamboat group sales manager conducted a Zoom meeting for trip participants prior to the trip to discuss new policies and to answer questions

Airport/Flights: flights Check-ins, security checks, was normal. Baggage claim for luggage was actually faster than normal but skis and boards came out at the opposite end of the building. Bus pickup was then at the opposite end on the other side of the building.  Denver airport (DIA) food courts were open with social distancing (50% of capacity). Seating at gates was not limited.

Charter bus required face masks although food and drink were allowed on the bus.  Though front seats nearest driver were blocked there were no other limits on seating.

Apple Jacks was limiting the number of people in the store so they  lined you up outside the store and you entered when someone else came out.

Lift tickets by reservation only. No ticket window walkup sales.

Masks strictly enforced in Gondola Square, lift lines, restrooms, and grab-and-go food lines.

On-mountain restaurant food orders/pickups required waiting outside until people left inside food counters due to capacity limits. No indoor seating, outdoor seating only was present at all on-mountain and base area restaurants. Outdoor seating was very limited.

Chairlifts allowed to carry two or three people per chair if in same group. If one person loads chairlift, they will pair with a single skier not in group.  Eight-person gondola allowed only people from same group. They will load a group of two to four people from same group. If only two people from same group, they will only allow two people in gondola. If one person is present, they will ride alone in gondola. Face masks enforced in lift lines.

Limited number of lifts and trails open during visit due to lack of snow 16 trails were open on day 1, 28 trails open on day, 6 lifts were open on day 1, 8 lifts open on day 3A

Downtown restaurants were closed for indoor seating, only takeout orders were available. Some downtown restaurants had one or two tables outside for customers. Food deliveries to condos were severely limited.

Hot tubs and pool at condos were open but required reservations for 30-minute time intervals and limited to occupants.
